Located on the west bank of the Hudson River in Orange County, New York, Fort Montgomery is a historic site that played a significant role in the American Revolutionary War. The fort was built to defend the strategically important Hudson River from British forces, who were attempting to cut off New England from the rest of the colonies.

Construction of the fort began in 1776, and it was part of a network of defenses built to protect the Hudson River Valley.
